An SA2 is an ABS Statistical Area Level 2. It is often one suburb, but it can be several suburbs, or a large rural area. Do not read an SA2 as a suburb. The counts are the ABS estimates of resident population at 30 June 2024 and 30 June 2025.

Each row is one SA2 from Tables 1 to 9 of the ABS file, with the state taken from the table title. Only rows with a 9-digit SA2 code are kept, so state totals are not in the file. The counts and components are as published. Percentages and density are as published, to the ABS precision.
Checks run before publishing: the sum of erp_2025 for each state and territory equals the ABS state total in Table 10 for all nine rows, including Other Territories. Every SA2 code is unique and 9 digits, and the row count per table matches the codes in that table.
Notes: density_2025_per_km2 is worked out from unrounded area, so erp_2025 divided by area_km2 may differ slightly on tiny SA2s. erp_change_pct is 0 where erp_2024 is 0, because a percentage change from a zero base is undefined.
ABS publishes no postcode-to-SA2 file, so this data is SA2-only and is not joined to postcodes.
